Natural Ways To Ease Anxiety

Natural Remedies for Anxiety

Whether you have an anxiety disorder, or you just feel a little worrisome sometimes; finding natural ways to ease anxiety is like finding gold. So I have put together a little list of everything that helps me find some peace when my mind is freaking out.

Eat right
Yeah, healthy eating is seriously the key. Our bodies and brains need a nutrients and vitamin rich diet to function at full capacity; this means you MUST eat your vegetables and drink plenty of water. Try and avoid refined sugars and caffeine as much as possible, but don’t deny yourself that morning coffee. Some brain superfoods to make you feel awesome and happy include: oats, salmon, almonds, leafy greens, blueberries, avocado, spinach, and chocolate (yes I said chocolate, but in moderation).

Exercise
If you are like me, you shudder when you hear the word exercise. Unfortunately though, it is necessary for us to maintain a healthy body and mind. When we start exercising our brain registers that we are in a moment of stress and releases a chemical called Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor, this is pretty much like turning your phone off and on again – it resets it, and paired with the stress-fighting endorphins we are left feeling calm and happy. You don’t have to become a super gym junkie, just 20 minutes of yoga every second day is a good place to start.

Take a bath
For me, taking a nice hot bath is one of the most natural ways to ease anxiety. I personally like adding a cup of baking soda and a table spoon of coconut oil to the water, then I light some candles and settle in with a book. Let your skin soak it up for a good hour and you will be amazed at how good you feel.

Disconnect
We live in a world of technology, it seems everything is run by a computer now. I love my phone; I am always checking up on Instagram, scrolling through facebook and twitter, and pinning my heart away on pinterest. Always being connected is a big anxiety trigger, especially when you are constantly refreshing feeds and waiting on a message or notifications. So sometimes I just need to completely disconnect for a while and not think about anything that’s happening online, it’ll still be there in a few hours.

Have Some Alone time
Maybe it’s the introvert in me speaking, but one of my favourite natural ways to ease anxiety is to simply be alone sometimes. Other peoples energies can be unbalancing to our own, even if you love the people you are around, you may feel yourself getting exhausted. This is when alone time is super important. Make yourself a tea and go sit down somewhere away from anyone – I like to sit in bed and write. It always leaves me feeling refreshed and a lot calmer.

Do you guys have any other natural ways to ease anxiety? Let me know in the comments. xoxo

  3. I agree with all of these! There is seriously nothing better in my mind than a hot bath and a good book (and maybe a glass of wine) at the end of the day. It is so refreshing and relaxing!

  4. Love your five ways to relieve anxiety. Can I add one more? Prayer also works wonders.

  6. Alone time is a definite for me -- I'm such an introvert and I need time to do my own thing to relax and recharge.

  7. These are so right on! Eating right is the hardest for me, as when I'm feeling stressed or anxious, I feel I deserve to "treat myself" and snack on sweets. It's not really a concern for me weight-wise, so I often overlook the effect it has on me mentally. My brain is an organ too! haha. Thanks for sharing this list!
